10/01/18 University Safety: GBI Investigates Officer Involved Shooting

Kennesaw, GA (October 1, 2018) – On Monday, October 1, 2018, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation was requested by the Kennesaw Police Department (KPD) to conduct an officer involved shooting investigation.

Preliminary information indicates that KPD Patrol Officers observed a local gas station (Texaco) being burglarized at 3870 Moon Station Road, Kennesaw. The officers confronted the subjects identified as 3 to 4 black males.  Initial information indicates that the officers exchanged gunfire with the subjects. The subjects fled in a vehicle.  An additional KPD officer gave chase to the vehicle. The officer lost sight of the vehicle. The vehicle was later located on the Kennesaw State University (KSU) Campus. The subjects have not been located but are not believed to be in the KSU area.

No law enforcement officers were injured in the incident.

The GBI will continue its independent investigation. Once complete, it will be turned over to the Cobb County District Attorney’s office for review.
